BIS certification Made Compulsory for Electric Ceiling Fans

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has issued quality control norms for domestic manufacturers of electric ceiling fans. The Electric Ceiling Type Fans (Quality Control) Order, 2023 issued on August 9 will come into force with effect from 12 months from the notification of the order for micro enterprises as defined under the MSME Act, 2006, reported FE.

For small enterprises, the order will come into force with effect from nine months from the date of publication of the notification, the notification read.


31 QCOs on Geotextiles and Protective textiles notified by the Ministry of Textiles

Ministry of Textiles, under its flagship scheme National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), organized the 6th National Conclave on Standards & Regulations in association with FICCI and BIS, emphasizing on importance of Standards, Quality regulations & Rationalization of HSN codes for Technical Textiles in India here today.

The event encompassed 5 technical sessions focusing on Standards and Regulations under specialized areas of Technical Textiles like Protective textiles, Geotextiles, Build tech, Oekotech, Medical textiles and in other emerging areas of Technical Textiles. There was a Special Session also discussing rationalization of HSN codes & standards and implementation of QCOs.


IS 18158: 2023 Artificial Grass Carpet:

The standard covers construction and performance requirements for Artificial grass carpet made of synthetic yarns which mimic natural grass and is increasingly popular for residential lawns, outdoor areas, and commercial applications. The important performance requirement specified in the standard include tuft withdrawal force, water permeability, colour fastness to light, shampooing and water, appearance retention test, flammability and UV requirement etc.


IS 18309:2023 Geosynthetics-Prefabricated Vertical Drains for Quick Consolidation of Very Soft Plastic Soil-Specification:

Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVDs) are drainage materials with a polymer core and geotextile enclosure, used in construction projects to expedite soil consolidation. They reduce drainage paths for pore water, accelerating settlement. This standard specifies important performance requirements for PVD including tensile strength, discharge capacity, elongation at break, index puncture, trapezoid tear, permeability etc.
